The Nature Boy Ric Flair captures his first World Heavyweight championship when he defeats Dusty Rhodes for the National Wrestling Alliance title. Legendary champion Lou Thesz was the special referee for the match

His first reign would officially last until June 10, 1983, when he dropped the belt to Harley Race.

Flair, who would go on to become the consummate titleholder of the 1980s, would eventually capture the championship a total of nine times, to go along with multiple WCW and WWE reigns throughout the course of his decorated career.
