TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… DEC. 4th: The Dungeon Becomes a Landmark

DATELINE: DEC. 4, 2012 – CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA

The legendary Hart Family home, where dozens of famous wrestlers were trained, is named an official heritage site by the City of Calgary.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nensi declared the Hart Mansion the equivalent of a landmark. Stu Hart purchased the house in 1951 and would turn it into the headquarters of Stampede Wrestling.

The basement, notably nicknamed “The Dungeon”, would be the breeding and proving ground for hundreds of wrestlers. The downstairs gym has been the subject of several interviews, TV reports, and was also prominently featured in the Bret Hart bio-documentary, Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows.
