TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… JAN 21st: Windham & Rotundo win it for America

DATELINE: JAN 21, 1985 – HARTFORD CIVIC CENTER – HARTFORD, CT

The US Express win the WWF World Tag Team Championship from the North-South Connection, and are briefly given a PRETTY famous theme song, Brother.

The team’s youthful good looks, scientific abilities in the ring and patriotic gimmick made them an instant hit with the fans. They would have two reigns with the WWF tag titles.

On a side note, the US Express were the original owners of the “Real American” theme song, written and recorded by Rick Derringer. It is credited as such on the first Wrestling Album. After the duo of Windham and Rotundo was dissolved, the song was used as Hulk Hogan’s music. It eventually became synonymous with the pop culture icon, and as much a part of his entrance as his standard, ‘tearing of the t-shirt’.
