TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… APRIL 7th: The Three Faces of ‘Mania

DATELINE: APRIL 7, 1986 – NASSAU COLISEUM / ROSEMONT HORIZON / LA SPORTS ARENA

The WWF presents WrestleMania 2 from three separate locations, New York, Chicago, & LA, headlined by Hulk Hogan defeating King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match.

As the second ‘Mania event, it continued the precedent set from the previous year, with several celebrity appearances and high-profile matches sprinkled across the three cities. Some highlights include: The 20-man battle royal in Chicago (featuring wrestlers and stars of the National Football League, and won by Andre the Giant), a boxing match between Mr. T and Roddy Piper, and the British Bulldogs winning the WWF World tag team titles.

WrestleMania 2 is the only multi-city event in the series’ history. The three venues, together, drew just over 40,000 combined attendance. Approximately 319,000 homes watched the show on closed circuit television and PPV.
