TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… APRIL 18th: Brody arrives in New Japan

DATELINE: APRIL 18, 1985 – SUMO HALL – TOKYO, JAPAN

Bruiser Brody’s short stint with New Japan Pro Wrestling begins, when he faces off against the company’s legendary founder, Antonio Inoki.

Brody, who for years had performed for rival All-Japan, made a surprise appearance for NJPW at Kourakuen Hall, on March 21st, but didn’t wrestle. Instead, Brody was in a suit, and swinging his chain.

This would kick off a feud between Brody and Inoki, during which Brody went into the dressing room and injured Inoki’s elbow. During their series, many of their matches ended in no-contests or disqualifications.
