DATELINE: DEC. 2, 1974 – KAGOSHIMA, JAPAN


Shohei ‘Giant’ Baba defeated Jack Brisco, 2-1 in a best of three falls match, to win his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The victory made Baba the first Japanese wrestler in history to hold the prestigious Ten Pounds of Gold.

Baba would lose the title just one week later back to Brisco. He would go on to capture the belt twice more in his career, with each of reigns lasting a week or less.
