iNDYS, iNTERNATIONAL, & THE uNDERGROUND – 04.29.2018: South Florida Goes Platinum

A primer on Platinum Pro Wrestling, one of the hottest promotions in South Florida and its upcoming events in May

By Michael Melchor, Executive Editor

Pro wrestling in South Florida has gone Platinum.

Based out of Ft. Lauderdale, Platinum Pro Wrestling may be one of several independent wrestling promotions running in the Sunshine State but bills itself as, “A Cut Above The Rest.” Between the different kinds of events promoted by PPW as well as a look at the talent roster, Platinum Pro may have a legitimate claim to that slogan.

Notable among the standout performers and larger-than-life gimmicks is the team of New Blood Rizing – “Madd Dawg” Williams and “J-Dawg” Brooks. It is the latter of the two that operates Platinum Pro Wrestling.

After competing all over Florida for the past two decades, Brooks shifted his primary focus toward running his own company. As the company’s Facebook page says, Brooks’s company “was established in late ’16 as a new platform 4 top notch talent to showcase their abilities & as a new Brand for the Wrestling fans of South Florida!”

Since that time, PPW has presented a different flavor of wrestling, both in the ring and outside. A shining example of this is the company’s SlamFest show, which happens on May 5 at Mon Sha Cajun Smokehouse in Miami.

If it seems unusual that a wrestling show is taking place at a steakhouse, consider the date. SlamFest is the company’s Cinco de Mayo show, happening as part of a free Block Party event. The first match takes place at 6:30pm with music and entertainment in-between each match until 11 p.m. that evening.

In addition, all matches will be featured as well as the music and interviews with Platinum Pro performers in-between the action as SlamFest will also be broadcast live as it happens by the “Now Trending Live” online radio show.

“Now Trending Live” is a live, online radio show airing from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays and hosted by Joy Cannizzaro. The “Now Trending Live” crew – Joy, Drew, Shavonne and Chris Metal – discuss trending topics, news, sports and much more each week. Past shows can be accessed via the show’s YouTube channel.

Two weeks after the live broadcast of SlamFest, PPW hosts another premiere event when LuchaMania 2 emanates from the Cooper City American Legion Post #321 in Cooper City, FL. All of PPW’s top titles will be on the line in what looks to be a star-studded show:

A pretty impressive talent roster will be on display at LuchaMania 2. Maxx Stardom defends the Silverweight Championship against Saieve Al Sabah (most recently seen in MLW). Alex Chamberlain squares off against former Ohio Valley Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Chris Silvio. Dynamite Didi also defends the Starlight Championship against Jayme Jameson.

South Florida has a lot to look forward to in the month of May and beyond with PPW. The different feel of its events and its loaded talent roster look to ensure that the company will leave a Platinum shine on the state of Florida – and the rest of the wrestling world – in the near future.
