TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… FEB 22nd: A Starrcade Sequel at SuperBrawl

DATELINE: FEB 22, 1998 – THE COW PALACE – SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Sting pins Hollywood Hogan at SuperBrawl VIII to win the vacant WCW World Heavyweight championship. The title had been held up after a controversial finish between the two at Starrcade, when the match was re-started by special referee Bret Hart.

As Sting was delivering a Scorpion Deathdrop, Hogan kicked referee Nick Patrick down. Members of the nWo, including Randy Savage, came to the ring. Everyone except Savage attacked Sting. As Hogan was trying to get up, Savage struck him with a can of spray paint. Sting then covered Hogan for the win and the belt.
