Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn all make their WWF debuts on Monday Night RAW, when they run in during a tag team match between the New Age Outlaws and Head Cheese. Jim Ross dubbed the foursome as “radicals”, giving birth to the stable’s name.
Benoit had actually won the WCW World title from Sid Vicious on his last night with his old company, only to surrender it the next day to sign with the World Wrestling Federation. Despite the championship win, the quartet of friends believed that, behind the scenes, they would never get a fair shake in WCW; They believed that they had been the victims of a ‘class system’ when it came to pushes and titles. Adding fuel to that fire was the backstage situation between Benoit and booker Kevin Sullivan, and Sullivan’s estranged wife, Nancy.
Following WCW’s Souled Out, the four men asked for their releases, and they were accommodated. They would sign with the WWF immediately.
