DATELINE: JAN 6, 1983 – SAN JUAN, PR
WWC Universal Champion Carlos Colon defeats NWA World Champion Ric Flair in a champion versus champion match.
It was very typical when a touring champion would lose a belt in a foreign territory, that the outcome of this match was not made official or aired on NWA television. This practice was used to boost houses and lend credibility to a local star, while not upsetting the lineage of the championship itself.
Flair received the belt back in a phantom title change that took place on January 23, 1983.
