TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… MARCH 18th: The Last WCW Pay-per-View

DATELINE: MARCH 18, 2001 – JACKSONVILLE COLISEUM – JACKSONVILLE, FL

WCW stages Greed, featuring a main event that saw World Heavyweight champion Scott Steiner defeat Diamond Dallas Page. It would be the company’s final pay-per-view event, as World Championship Wrestling, and all its properties, would be acquired by Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation less than a week later.

Greed draws the lowest number of PPV buys for a WCW event ever, and signaled a bittersweet end for the WWF’s longtime adversary. A late attempt by an Eric Bischoff-led company, Fusion Media Ventures, to buy the company fell through, leaving it for McMahon to purchase at an amazingly low price.
