TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… MARCH 27th: Sting becomes a Star on the SuperStation

Jim Crockett Promotions and the National Wrestling Alliance present the first-ever Clash of Champions special on SuperStation WTBS.

The free event was in direct competition with the WWF’s WrestleMania IV, and the counter-programming was a response to Vince McMahon  having scheduled Survivor Series against Crockett’s Starrcade 1987 on pay per view just a few months earlier.

In the main event, Ric Flair and Sting fought to a 45-minute time limit draw for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, with Four Horsemen manager JJ Dillon suspended in a cage above the ring.

Ringside judges Gary Juster, Sandy Scott, and Patty Mullen could not come to a decision on the winner. In the fallout, Flair would escape with the gold, but the young challenger would leave with main event status.
