TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY…MAY 10th: Rock & Wrestling Move to NBC

DATELINE: MAY 10, 1985 – NASSAU COLISEUM – UNIONDALE, NY


The World Wrestling Federation tapes the first ever episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The show airs one night later on NBC in place of Saturday Night Live, and features Cyndi Lauper’s new music video, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”. The show is opened with the pop song “Obsession” by Animotion (see video below)

Ricky Steamboat and The US Express defeated Nikolai Volkoff, The Iron Sheik, and George Steele
Hulk Hogan defeated Bob Orton via disqualification to retain the WWF Title
Wendi Richter defeated The Fabulous Moolah to retain the WWF Women’s Title
The Junkyard Dog defeated Pete Doherty
