Jerry The King Lawler defeats Curt Hennig in the Mid-South Coliseum to finally capture the elusive AWA World Heavyweight title.

Jackie Fargo was the special referee after getting more votes in a national telephone poll than Hennig’s father, Larry “The Axe” Hennig.

Lawler had come close to winning the championship a number of times over the years, but this victory finally insured his first, official AWA World title reign.
