TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… SEPT. 18th: Exit the Dragon

DATELINE: SEPT. 18, 1994 – ROANOKE CIVIC CENTER – ROANOKE, VA


WCW FALL BRAWL:  Due to a back injury he suffered at Clash of the Champions a few weeks earlier, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat was forced to forfeit the WCW United States Championship. 

Steamboat was later fired by WCW President Eric Bischoff via Fed Ex, ending a nearly two decade relationship with the Crockett/Turner wrestling organization.

Steamboat would be added to the WWE Hall of Fame and make some appearances for the company over ten years later, but his departure from WCW was essentially his ‘retirement’ from in-ring competition. Considered one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time, Steamboat’s accomplishments rank him among the best of his era.
