TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… SEPT. 20th: The Final Stand for a Man Called Sting

Seth Rollins defeats Sting to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

It would turn out to be Sting’s final match, as during the bout, he suffered a neck injury. Near the end of the year, he underwent surgery to correct cervical spinal stenosis. From there, Sting announced during his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in April 2016 that he was formally retiring.
