TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… SEPT. 26th: The Dream battles The Superstar at The Garden

DATELINE: SEPT. 26, 1977 – MADISON SQUARE GARDEN – NEW YORK, NY

Dusty Rhodes defeats WWWF Champion Superstar Billy Graham via countout.

The American Dream’s arrival to New York was highly-anticipated. The Garden was completely sold out, and several thousand fans also viewed the showdown at the Felt Forum via closed circuit television.

After this initial Rhodes’ victory, Graham would win a Texas Death Rules re-match on October 24th.

Rhodes, based comfortably in the Florida territory, would continue to make sporadic appearances for Vince McMahon, Sr. and the then-World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) until 1981.
