With the status of WrestleMania 36 in limbo due to the Corona Virus, I figured now would be a good time to delve into a dream WrestleMania card. Now in this, I will be having matchups that feature current stars and the legends of the past, living or deceased.
The matches will include a WWE Championship match, an Intercontinental Championship match, a Tag Team Championship match, a Women’s Championship match, a Women’s Tag Team Championship match, a Money in the Bank ladder match, Cruiserweight Championship match and some grudge matches. All of these matches will features favorites of mine and matchups I think would be cool as well as matches I’ve always wanted to see and have created on WWE 2K games.
For the title matches, I’m not going to assign any wrestlers with belts. Yeah, I called them belts. I will also not book the winner of the matches, with the exception of one.
I would hold the event in Atlanta, in the new home of the Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium simply because I love Atlanta.
Now without further ado, here is my dream WrestleMania card.
The host of the show would be the Nature Boy, Ric Flair! Woooooooooo!
WWE Championship Match: Shawn Michaels vs AJ Styles
This would be the main event of the evening. HBK is my all-time favorite wrestler and Styles is in my top-five. This is a match made in heaven for wrestling fans. It would have fantastic athleticism. We almost got this match a couple years ago at the Royal Rumble, but it never came to fruition. Styles got to the WWE a decade too late for this matchup with Michaels to happen.
Grudge Match: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs CM Punk
This was another rumored match years back, but Austin elected to stay retired. These are two similar, yet opposite characters. While both played the role of anti-hero and feuded with the boss, Austin is a beer-swelling individual where Punk is straight edge. The promos leading to this match would be epic and once the bell rang, all bets would be off.
Grudge Match: The Undertaker vs Sting
This is the biggest “what if” match in wrestling history. Both guys had mystique and unique characters that would lead to some awesome material for a feud. Sting should have wrestled Taker at WrestleMania 31 instead of Triple H, but nothing we can do about that now. On top of their characters, both were loyal to their respective companies and never jumped ship.
Women’s Championship Match: Charlotte Flair vs Shayna Bazler
This is more than likely going to happen one day, but it doesn’t take away from me wanting to see the match. Charlotte is arguably the greatest female wrestler of all time and Bazler is one of the most dominant in recent memory, who is also challenging Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title at Mania 36, should the event take place. Bazler could vow to end the Flair legacy in front of Flair’s father while Charlotte would look to solidify her status among the all-time greats.
Intercontinental Championship Submission Match: Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart
These two are considered two of the best, if not the best technical wrestlers of all time. Hart grew up in the wrestling business, coming from the legendary Hart Family. Angle came over from amateur wrestling, winning an Olympic gold medal (with a broken freakin’ neck!) as well as a two-time NCAA Division I champion at my alma mater Clarion University. It would be ankle lock vs sharp shooter in an epic clash. The psychology and intensity of this match would be off the charts.
Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way Elimination Match: The Dudley Boyz vs Harlem Heat vs the Brain Busters vs the New Day
This match is filled with four of my favorite tag teams of all time. To me, the Dudley Boyz are the best tag team of all time and the 3D, especially through a table is one of my favorite finishers ever. Harlem Heat were always in your face and never afraid to get all in your face. The Brain Busters are one of the most underappreciated tag teams of all time. The New Day is one of the most decorated tag teams of all time and are extremely entertaining, both before and after the bell.
Women’s Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match: Sasha Banks and Bayley vs AJ Lee and Paige vs Trish Stratus and Lita
Each of these teams represent a different era in the women’s revolution. Sasha and Bayley were the first ever WWE Women’s Tag Team champs. AJ Lee deserves a lot of credit for the start of the women’s revolution and Paige was one to help usher in the new wave of talent, before she had to hang up the boots due to injury. Trish and Lita are two of the most iconic women’s wrestlers ever and really broke some barriers and paved the way for all four aforementioned women.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Brock Lesnar vs HHH vs Eddie Guerrero vs Rob Van Dam vs John Cena vs Aleister Black vs Matt Riddle vs Jeff Hardy
This is just an all-star dream match for me. You have high flyers and brutalizers, which makes for some interesting collisions. Riddle could finally get his hands on Lesnar (another dream match I want to one day see) and that would blow the roof off the place. Guerrero and RVD had a classic ladder match on Raw. Triple H was involved in a great ladder match at SummerSlam ’98. Hardy is the master daredevil of the ladder match and Black would add an interesting dynamic.
Cruiserweight Championship Match: Rey Mysterio vs Lio Rush
This would be my opening match and would set the bar for the rest of the evening. Mysterio is arguably the best cruiserweight of all time who has done it all in the business. Rush is up and coming currently in WWE and his style would mesh well with the legend. These two would tear the place down and would have a match of the year candidate. Who knows? Maybe we can get this match, even without the title on the line, sometime in the future before Rey calls it quits.
Roman Reigns vs The Rock
This match is rumored for WrestleMania 37 next year in Los Angeles, where the Rock reigns supreme. The family feud would draw a lot of eyeballs and would be a fantastic encounter. This would also be a passing of the torch moment, with The Rock doing the honors for his younger cousin. Reigns is the top guy in WWE while Rock is the top guy in Hollywood. If this match is a go for next year, expect an edgier Reigns, who would look to prove why he is the guy in WWE, by defeating one of the biggest legends ever. Also, the family dynamic would be fantastic and they could delve deep and get personal.
