TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… SEPT. 25th: Garvin wins the Gold

DATELINE: SEPT. 25, 1987 – DETROIT, MICHIGAN


The Hands of Stone, Ron Garvin, defeated Ric Flair in a steel cage match to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Garvin’s reign has been viewed as a transitional championship to set up his return match with Flair. He would lose the title back to The Nature Boy in a steel cage re-match, at Starrcade 1987: Chi-Town Heat later two months later.
