TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… JULY 19TH: Gene Kiniski’s Triple Crown

DATELINE: JULY 19TH, 1961 – ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA

Just a few weeks after winning the AWA World title from Verne Gagne on July 11th, Gene Kiniski captures the AWA World Tag Team title with Hard Boiled Haggerty.

The victory meant that Kiniski now simultaneously held the Tag Title, AWA US Title and AWA World Heavyweight Title, as he established his dominance in the Minnesota territory.

NOTE: Kiniski has another very significant historical distinction. He’s the only man to hold both the NWA and AWA World Heavyweight titles
