TODAY IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY… JULY 26th: Dusty’s Third World title

DATELINE: JULY 26, 1986 – THE GREAT AMERICAN BASH -GREENSBORO, NC

Dusty Rhodes defeats Ric Flair in a steel cage match to win the NWA World Heavyweight title. It would be The American Dream’s third- and final- time holding wrestling’s most illustrious championship.

The reign was short-lived, however, as Flair would regain the belt two weeks later. Rhodes had previously defeated Harley Race for both of his other title victories, in 1979 and 1981.
