WWE fans have been rejecting Baron Corbin for the better part of two years, but they may now be singing a different tune.
Since Corbin was drafted to Raw as part of the Superstar Shakeup in April 2018, he has been one of the most pushed superstars on the red brand. One could argue, in fact, that–when you take Brock Lesnar out of the mix–no heel has been feaured more heavily than Corbin has over the past 18 months or so. Of course, Corbin’s push hasn’t been withouts its fair share of criticisms. The former NFL player has been labeled as overpushed, overrated, boring, and everything else in between, and WWE fans have long made it clear that they want none of Corbin in the main event picture.
That was evidenced by the negative reaction to Corbin wrestling Kurt Angle in Angle’s retirement match at WrestleMania 35, a bout that even Angle himself admitted he was not a fan of. As viewership plunged during Corbin’s year-long run as perhaps the top heel on Raw, many pinned at least some of WWE’s rating woes on Corbin himself, noting that he was the centerpiece of the show when it consistently failed to deliver in the ratings department.
