When Braun Strowman challenges Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions, WWE will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
WWE has spent the past several months working hard to establish Rollins as the face of the company, and it seemed to finally accomplish that goal when Rollins beat Brock Lesnar 100% clean at SummerSlam to regain that coveted Universal title. Critics, however, have blasted the way WWE has pushed Rollins since WrestleMania 35, noting that WWE has looked “desperate” by doing everything in its power to try to make Rollins “look cool”, including having him get endorsed on-screen by Bret Hart and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in addition to booking him to beat Lesnar not once but twice.
Although Rollins is still one of WWE’s most popular acts and remains locked in a battle for the spot as its top merchandise seller, Rollins’ ongoing run as “the guy” on Monday Night Raw hasn’t come without its fair share of hiccups.
